About the location
Learn Japanese in one of Japan’s southernmost or northernmost locations!
Fukuoka
Fukuoka, Kyushu’s largest city (pop. ~1.6M), pairs a high quality of life with a coastal setting and a famous food scene—hello, tonkotsu ramen. Historically a trading gateway, it’s now a major hub with frequent links to South Korea and China. Expect modern shopping, historic temples and shrines, and green escapes like Ohori Park.
Sapporo
Sapporo, Hokkaido’s capital (~1.9M), brings deep-snow winters, the Sapporo Snow Festival, and quick access to ski resorts—then cool, comfortable summers. Built on a Western-style grid, it’s easy to navigate and big on flavor: think fresh seafood and miso ramen, plus the iconic Sapporo Beer.
